Reduced Size MMC Memory Guide

The Reduced Size MMC is a small form factor flash memory card. However, it is not the smallest variation of the MMC card, that would be the MMC micro which measures 14mm x 12mm x 1.1mm. The Reduced Size MMC measures in at 24mm x 18mm x 1.4mm (about half the size of a postage stamp). The RS-MMC was formerly used in Nokia and Siemens mobile phones. However since 2006 Nokia's phones have adapted to use SD cards, and Siemens has ceased to manufacture mobile phones completely. The cards are now mainly used to store pictures in digital cameras, and in some PDAs.
The Reduced Size MMC comes with a simple adapter which allows it to be used with any full sized MMC, MMCplus, or SD slot. The adapters for Reduced Size MMC cards are different than the adapters that come with many others. The card is clipped in rather than inserted. Some find it easier to take the card in and out. It's compatibility with both SD and MMC devices makes this a flexible card. Since many PCs now have SD slots the adapter would allow for easy data transfer, simply clip the card in to the adapter and insert it in to your PC for easy access to all of your files.
The Reduced Size MMC is currently available in sizes up to 1 GB. They are extremely durable. The cards are built with ample protection from water, dust, electro-static discharge, and extreme temperature. It can withstand temperatures from -40 to 85 Celsius, as well as stand up to a fair amount of physical abuse insuring your data does not get lost or destroyed - sometimes even if your device does. It's small size (it weighs less than a gram) makes it useful in small portable devices like digital cameras, handheld video cameras, or PDAs.
