Mini SDHC Memory Guide
The MiniSDHC (Mini Secure Digital High Capacity) is simply a higher capacity version of the original MiniSD card. While the original MiniSD card has been produced in capacities as small as 16MB, the MiniSDHC version is only available in capacities 4 GB and over. Currently, the largest MiniSD card available is 8 GB, but with a theoretical maximum capacity of 2048 GB (2 TB) larger cards are sure to be seen in the future. These cards are usually used in small electronic gadgets like cellular phones, digital cameras, MP3 players and similar small portable devices.
The MiniSDHC is the same size (21.5 x 20 x 1.4mm), and operates at the same voltage (2.7 or 3.6 V) as the original MiniSD card. It is compatible in most devices with a MiniSD slot, however some devices are not compatible with cards above a certain capacity, this is always something to check before making a purchase. MiniSDHC cards can be used with an adapter in the full sized SD slot. Since many computers are equipped with an SD slot, the adapter allows for easy access of your files. MiniSD and MiniSDHC cards are only 37% of the volume of a full size SD card, but it they have most of the benefits of the full size card including copyright protection. How ever, the full size card has a write protection switch, the mini cards do not.
The miniSDHC should not be confused with the MicroSDHC, which is a much smaller card. Micro cards can be used in MiniSD/SDHC devices with the use of an adapter, however due to it's larger size the miniSDHC will not be compatible with devices made for the microSD/SDHC format. The two are similar and commonly confused. Up until the introduction of the MicroSD cards, MiniSD cards were the smallest flash memory cards available. Now, at half the weight, and only 15mm x 11mm x 0.7mm in size, microSD/SDHC cards are the smallest flash memory cards you can get.
