MMC Mobile Memory Guide

The MMCmobile is a development of the RS-MMC (Dual Voltage Reduced-Size MultiMediaCard) that was introduced in 2003. It offers a much faster transfer speed than the original RS-MMC card - with a maximum operating speed of 52Mbps it is about 20 times faster than the RS-MMC. The MMCmobile measures 18mm x 24mm x 1.4mm and it supports both 1.8 and 3.3v operations. The ability to operate at a lower voltage makes this card useful in mobile phones since a higher voltage would use more power and drain the devices battery too quickly. When it was originally released in 2005, the MMCmobile was available in capacities from 16MB to 1GB. It is now available in capacities from 34MB to 4GB.
MMCmobile cards always come with an adapter. This makes them compatible with all MMC and MMCplus slots, as well as SD memory card slots. However music stored on MMC cards might not always be able to play back when the card is used in an SD slot because the cards use a different copyright protection system. MMC moble cards are available with the SecureMMC copyright protection application. SecureMMC is part of the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI). Devices with copyright protection allow users to store and enjoy copyrighted material such as music.
MMCmobile cards are ideal for storing all types of files including photos, videos, and music. Using memory cards is a popular option to expand the memory in mobile phones with high-megapixel cameras, or to store music, more ringtones, or videos. The adapter allows the card to be taken from the phone or other device and inserted into any computer with an MMC or SD slot) for easy data transfer. MMC mobile adapters are a little different than many others - the card is "clipped" in rather than inserted. Some find it easier to manage. These cards are fully backwards-compatible.
